Avoid cloves if you have these health problems…
Are you allergic to spices or certain plants? Clove can cause an allergic reaction.
Clove belongs to the Myrtaceae family, which also includes eucalyptus and guava. If you are sensitive to these plants, it can cause allergic reactions, ranging from mild itching or skin irritation to more serious symptoms such as swelling, difficulty breathing, or hives. Even a small amount of clove essential oil may be enough in cases of severe sensitivity. When using it for the first time, start with a minimal dose and monitor for any adverse effects. A patch test on a small area of skin is recommended before any topical application.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Avoid large quantities of cloves.
Pregnancy requires dietary restrictions, and cloves are a spice to be consumed with caution. In small doses, they can relieve nausea and aid digestion, but excessive consumption can stimulate uterine contractions, which is particularly dangerous in early pregnancy when the risk of miscarriage is higher. Clove essential oil is highly concentrated and should be avoided unless prescribed by a doctor. Breastfeeding mothers should also be careful: eugenol can pass into breast milk and, at high concentrations, can be harmful to the newborn.
