  • Excessive consumption  of red meat and processed meats ,

  • Alcohol ,

  • Lack  of physical exercise ,

  • Being  overweight .

Adopting a  diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains , engaging in  regular physical activity  and  limiting alcohol  are concrete ways to protect your colon.

5. Not talking about one's bowel movements: a dangerous taboo

It's a topic many prefer to avoid, yet  bowel movements are a major indicator of intestinal health .
According to a survey by the  ARC Foundation , more than half of French people over 45 don't dare broach this subject with their doctor.

As a result, warning signs go unnoticed.  Abnormally thin or  bloody stools , or  persistent changes  in frequency, should prompt a consultation.

“Talking about your bowel movements may seem embarrassing, but it can literally save a life,”  says Dr. Teitelbaum.

Breaking the taboo also means  encouraging prevention  and  promoting early detection .
