Victoire Maçon-Dauxerre is taking a stand against the cult of thinness in modeling
Her experience as a model changed her body image forever. " They wanted me, sure, but thin . I was beautiful because I was thin. That was my only value, " she shared. " Anorexia is a vicious cycle . And the irony is that I was asked to lose weight when my photos were, most of the time, retouched. They added thighs, cheeks, " she added. After quitting modeling, the young woman developed bulimia . She then suffered from depression , followed by a suicide attempt that landed her in a psychiatric clinic .
Since then, the young woman has recovered and begun an acting career . She resumed her studies in London and then worked at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. " Seeing people go on stage made me want to go myself. Then I went to drama school, and it was therapeutic . I reconnected my body and mind, " she shared with Vanity Fair . Victoire Maçon-Dauxerre now plays Vanessa, the head chef at Spoon in Tomorrow Is Ours , the daily series on TF1 .
The actress is working on adapting her book into a film with the producers of Vikings , the series in which she played Nissa in season 6. " I'm a co-producer of this project, and I'll be playing a supporting role, but not my own ," she told Télé 7 Jours . She also continues her involvement with various charities , notably the Imhotep association and Ateliers Mercure, a think tank working on new healthcare policies .
