On March 4, the American president imposed tariffs on Canadian goods in a new executive order, ending decades of free trade between the two nations.

This decision inevitably provoked a reaction from their neighbors. In response to this measure, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced tariffs of 25% on a total of 155 billion Canadian dollars (98 billion euros) of imports from the United States.

But the Canadians aren't about to stop there. The influential Premier of the Canadian province of Ontario, Doug Ford, wants to take a hard line to force Donald Trump to back down. He has threatened the American president in a statement with a 25% tariff on electricity deliveries to the northeastern United States.
