Turmeric
Turmeric, known for its bright yellow color, contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Curcumin can cross the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to act directly on brain cells. It reduces inflammation and oxidative stress, two factors linked to neurological diseases, and helps eliminate amyloid plaques.
Add turmeric to your smoothies, steamed vegetables, soups, or stews, or make golden milk by blending plant-based milk, turmeric, and a little honey. Combine it with black pepper for better absorption.
Cloves
Cloves are rich in eugenol, an antioxidant that fights inflammation and protects neurons from oxidative stress. They also contain vitamins and minerals beneficial to the brain. Cloves improve memory and prevent cellular damage.
Use ground cloves in your soups and curries, or prepare clove water by making a decoction of a few cloves. In aromatherapy, clove oil can also improve brain function and reduce stress.
Holy basil
Holy basil, also known as Tulsi, is renowned in traditional medicine for its numerous health benefits, especially for the brain. It contains genol, rosmarinic acid, and apigenin, compounds that protect brain cells from oxidative stress and inflammation. These compounds also improve memory and brain function by increasing blood flow and the effectiveness of neurotransmitters.
Prepare an infusion by steeping holy basil leaves in hot water, or add them fresh to your salads for a peppery flavor. You can also opt for holy basil supplements.
