One tablespoon a day and blood clots disappear forever!

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a vitamin-like substance naturally produced by the body. It plays a vital role in energy production within cells and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Studies have shown that CoQ10 may help prevent blood clots by:

    • Reducing oxidative stress and inflammation
    • Improving the health and flexibility of blood vessels
    • Reducing platelet aggregation (grouping of blood cells)
    • Enhancing the effects of vitamin K, which is important for normal blood clotting

A study published in the journal  Atherosclerosis  found that CoQ10 supplementation significantly decreased the risk of major cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes, in patients with coronary artery disease.

CoQ10: Production and Supplementation

The body naturally produces this substance, but production decreases with age. Certain health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, can also deplete its levels. Statins, used to lower cholesterol, are also known to reduce CoQ10.

Although small amounts of CoQ10 can be obtained through diet, it is difficult to reach therapeutic levels through food alone. This is where supplements come in. CoQ10 supplements are widely available over the counter in pharmacies, health food stores, and online. They come in two forms:

    • Ubiquinone  : oxidized form of CoQ10 which must be converted by the body into ubiquinol to be used in cells.
    • Ubiquinol  : an active and antioxidant form of CoQ10, more easily absorbed, especially in the elderly.

CoQ10 and COVID-19

Interesting studies have suggested that CoQ10 may have potential benefits for COVID-19 patients. In addition to its anticoagulant properties, CoQ10 has shown antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects.

A 2020 study published in the journal  Antioxidants  suggested that CoQ10 supplementation could be a potential adjunctive therapy for COVID-19. The authors hypothesized that CoQ10 could help reduce oxidative stress, support mitochondrial function, and modulate the immune response in COVID-19 patients.
