Test your eyesight: how many faces can you make

Want to try it? Create your own face tree.

Bring a notebook, a pencil, and a picture of a textured tree.

  1. Circle the areas of shadow and light.
  2. Identify two “eyes” (nearby knots or cracks) and draw the outline of the face.
  3. Suggest more than you draw: an arc for an eyebrow, a comma for a mouth.
  4. Eliminate the superfluous and highlight three key contrasts.

In just a few minutes, you'll have at your disposal a gallery of forest portraits, relaxing to create and fascinating to contemplate.
