Why do skin tags appear and how can they be removed?

They often appear unexpectedly, after touching a mirror or rubbing against jewelry: these small pieces of skin called skin tags. They are benign, of course. Generally harmless. But aesthetically, we'd rather do without them. Why do they appear? Can we really get rid of them ourselves? And if so, how can we avoid common mistakes? Here's everything you need to know to regain control of these little invaders.

Why do skin tags appear?
Although they seem harmless, skin tags (or "molluscum pendulums") are puzzling because of their sudden appearance. They generally develop in skin folds: on the neck, armpits, eyelids, groin… anywhere skin rubs against skin. And this is no coincidence. Possible causes:

Repeated friction (tight clothing, jewelry, skin-to-skin contact),
skin aging,
genetic predisposition
, and insulin resistance, often associated with being overweight, can all contribute to these growths
. In some cases, infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) is suspected.
But rest assured: these growths are neither dangerous nor contagious, and their appearance does not necessarily indicate a health risk.
